Integrated Approach to

means that we provide a child-centered curriculum, integrating carefully planned
themes that naturally flow into all subject areas.
Reading and Language, Math
and Science are the foundation of our curriculum
Reading &
Language Arts
- Reading for enjoyment
and information, including literature, science and history.
- Journaling and story
writing.
- Vocabulary and spelling
generated by various subjects.
- Achieving mastery of
reading and language arts at or above grade level.
- Planning and creating
a community newspaper.
Mathematics
- Computing utilizing objects,
pencil, paper, etc.
- Using math to understand
phenomena.
- Using math to solve everyday
problems.
- Achieving mastery at
grade level or above in computation and comprehension skills.
Science
- Ecology - understanding
the interdependence of life forms, food chains, weather., etc.
- Discovering and Exploring
natural phenomena.
- Planning experiments
and evaluating results.
Social Studies
and Geography
- Cultural studies, appreciating
the diversity of our culture.
- Study of California history.
- Geography of our canyon,
California, U.S.A.
Art, Music
and Dance
- Utilizing various media
to creatively express ideas.
- Writing stories, performing
their own and others' work.
- Appreciating and enjoying
various forms of music and dance.
Health and
Physical Education
- Learning about health
and nutrition.
- Playing cooperative games
and sports.
- Developing skills and
body strength.
Life Skills
- Our goal is to create
an atmosphere of acceptance and team work.
- Students develop a sense
of personal responsibility and pride in themselves and their group.
- Students are encouraged
to make wise decisions in caring for themselves, their own environment and
their community.
Children learn by doing
and actively participating in the learning process.
Students support each other
within an environment that encourages everyone to learn and to be
successful. Students are not graded against each other.
Assessment
Each student is encouraged
to acquire mastery of appropriate grade level skills. Assessments are done periodically
to monitor children's progress and to support their efforts.
